The Vision
What Punch is, and what that asks of the people who work here.
We are a craft-focused, precision-oriented barber shop. Traditional techniques are our specialty, and our service menu is constantly refined. Every cut, every shave, every interaction is handled with intention. Details are not just a part of the job — they are the job.
Our standards and systems are sophisticated, and they are still evolving. You will be stepping into an environment that prioritizes the integrity of the craft and the quality of the client experience. We believe in doing things right, and becoming more refined with every passing week.
The Roles
Two openings, one shop. Each a genuine position with room to grow.
Position 01
Master Barber
Full-time or Part-time
For the experienced barber ready to take a permanent chair in a shop that treats the work as craft. At least one to two years of professional behind-the-chair experience, a valid Illinois barber or cosmetology license, and the technical proficiency to manage a diverse clientele.
Position 02
Shop Concierge
15–25 hours per week · Growth to leadership
For the hospitality professional who understands that front-of-house is an art. Previous experience in high-end hospitality or luxury retail is preferred. This is an essential role — the concierge sets the energy of the shop.
What You’ll Do
The work, described honestly.
01
Execute excellence
Deliver precise cuts and shaves while providing a seamless, high-value experience. Technical skill is the baseline — what sets the day apart is the intention behind it.
02
The concierge touch
Serve as the shop’s primary ambassador. You aren’t just answering phones — you are managing the flow, anticipating needs, and ensuring every guest feels seen and respected from the moment they walk in.
03
Operational integrity
Maintain a pristine, organized station, and assist in the collective upkeep of the shop. The standard is what the client sees, and everything the client doesn’t.
04
Systems support
Contribute to the prep, turnover, and setup of the shop so the next shift is positioned for success. We leave things better than we found them — chair, station, schedule, and shop.
How We Work
The posture of the shop.
This is a hands-on, detail-driven environment. We value intuition over rigid scripts. You should be comfortable learning our specific language quickly, locking into our systems, and identifying ways to improve them.
We are not a teaching school. We are a collective of craftsmen. If you are a barber, mentorship is always available — whether you are mastering a new silhouette or refining a straight-edge technique. If you are our shopkeep, you are the conductor of the atmosphere. You ensure the front of house feels effortless through proactive greeting, careful scheduling, and attentive environment management.
Who You Are
Seven traits, in no particular order. All of them matter.
Perceptive
You have a high degree of situational awareness. You notice the small things before they become big things.
Reliable
Your presence is a pillar the team can lean on. You show up prepared and mentally present.
Self-directed
You possess the maturity to identify tasks and execute them without requiring constant supervision.
Accountable
You take ownership of your results and the collective energy of the shop.
Coachable
You view feedback as an investment in your growth, and you can pivot in real time.
Urgent & adaptable
You move with purpose and efficiency, understanding that time is our most valuable commodity.
Relational
You understand how to read people, adjust your energy to the room, and build genuine rapport.
Schedule & Requirements
The essentials, stated plainly.
Shop Days
Tuesday through Saturday
We operate five days a week to respect the rhythm of our community.
Availability
You must be able to fulfill your scheduled times.
Advance notification outside of emergencies is preferred.
Flexibility
Willingness to adapt to the flow of the shop and to provide coverage during peak seasonal shifts.
Experience — Barber
At least 1–2 years of professional behind-the-chair experience.
We value education, but this role requires a proven ability to manage a diverse clientele with technical proficiency.
Experience — Concierge
Previous experience in high-end hospitality or luxury retail is preferred.
Licensure
A valid Barber or Cosmetology license from the State of Illinois (barber applicants).
Professionalism
Reliable transportation and a commitment to punctuality.
Our process includes a brief, paid working interview. Technical skill is the baseline — how you integrate into the culture and take direction is what truly matters.
